Anything you can do in order to pull visitors into your web site is called Search Engine Optimization, or shorter SEO. I would like to make my web site as popular as I can, but without spending a ton of money. Alas, I am not any kind of expert on SEO but rather a rank amateur in the field. However, why let this stop me from trying? I decided to buy the book "Drupal 8 SEO: The visual step-by-step guide to Drupal Search Engine Optimization" by Ben Finklea.

This is probably not a substitute for an expert in the field, but why not use the book and see how an amateur can rank up against an expert, if he is equipped with some patience and a good study book.

So far i have started by reading the first chapters of the book. I have installed the modules recommended in the book, and completed the first major task in the process. One part of this is that I have installed the module SEO checklist, which has been developed in parallel with the book. The first major task is named "Be efficient", and this major task is now completed. I have begun working on the next major task: "Basic SEO part 1", but that is not completed yet. One reason for this is that I decided to start writing about my experience with SEO, i. e. this page.

I have now continued with my SEO project for a week. Progress has been slow, since the Metatag module is quite advanced. But I have so far installed the Metatag module, and the Schema Metatag module, as recommended in the book. I have partially done the configuration according to the instructions in the book, but progress is slow due to me reading up on a lot of topics. Another hurdle is that I have to create a logotype that works with Drupal.

The Metatag module is finally configured. I have to agree with Ben Finklea, the author of "Drupal SEO", who put this part on the difficulty level of "Expert". There are many steps, and many parameters to consider, and many parameters that are not necessary to touch. There are definitely many opportunities to make mistakes.

I should spend some time double checking my configuration, just to be certain.
